Summer along the Sound Shore

August along the sound shore, in the communities of Rye, Larchmont and Mamaroneck can evoke simpler times.  Small children excitedly tend lemonade stands on leafy streets, while clusters of tweens and teens in their sun drenched summer casual make their way by foot, bikes or long boards.  The way they traverse town safely and so self-assuredly is heartwarming.
Time slows perceptibly here in August,  as end-of-summer getaways approach and a quieter business pace seems to take hold.  August offers a welcome, benign deception of September’s inevitable return, with its frenetic back-to-school and business-as-usual rituals.

The slower pace also belies many of summer's late-blooming opportunities to enjoy simple and timeless pleasures.   So, dust off the folding chairs that know the sidelines so well in the fall, and plant them with a blanket and friends at an outdoor performance of Shakespeare in Rye Town Park, or for fireworks along the sound in Rye on Wednesdays and Fridays, or at a family-friendly musical performance at Memorial Park in Larchmont.
Enjoy summer along the sound shore.  Fall will be here soon enough, with its own stories.
